Charles 3.1 includes some changes that may affect existing users of Charles. The actions required are, however, very simple and the benefits will outweigh the effort!
Charles has a new root SSL certificate. If you have installed Charles’s certificate into your trust store you will need to repeat this process. Please see the SSL Certificates page for instructions.
The new root SSL certificate has a key length more in line with current security best practice, and fixes the warnings displayed in Opera for the old certificate. The new certificate also expires approximately 30 years in the future (rather than in 2010) so it’s more future proofed as well!
Some improvements have been made to the Mozilla Firefox add-on, so you are required to update the add-on before using the new version of Charles.
The ancient Java 1.3 is unfortunately no longer supported. This was a side-effect of the change to use MigLayout for form layouts. Please contact me if you require Java 1.3 support (or would really really like it).
Charles 3.1 introduces the capability for SOCKS Transparent Proxying. This makes the use of Charles even more transparent to the browser. Please read the SOCKS Transparent Proxying page for more information.
